Food

The Food module evaluates the environmental footprint of your diet. Different foods have very different impacts: beef, for example, generates up to 20 times more emissions than legumes. Measuring these habits is key to understanding your total impact.

What is measured in this module?

Solid foods

Usual consumption measured in kilograms of each type of food: meats (beef, pork, chicken), fish, dairy, eggs, cereals, legumes, fruits, vegetables and processed foods. Each category has a specific impact coefficient based on its production chain.

local_cafe

Beverages

Consumption of usual beverages in litres: bottled water, soft drinks, juices, coffee, tea, milk and alcoholic drinks. The production, packaging and transport of each beverage has a different environmental impact.

Why does it matter?

Food represents between 20% and 30% of a person's total environmental footprint. Decisions about what we eat have a direct impact on climate change, soil acidification, water use and biodiversity loss.

Footprint does not aim to judge your diet, but to inform you of the real impact of each food choice. Small changes — such as reducing red meat consumption one day a week — can have a significant and measurable effect on your environmental footprint.
